Hello,

I am a constituent writing to ask for your support for the Affordable Homes Act. I believe that shelter is our most basic human need, and our state needs more resources to make sure everyone has a warm, safe place to call home.

Families in my community are struggling to work enough hours to make rent. Meanwhile, a few ultra-wealthy families and real estate investors buy and sell multi-million dollar mansions while contributing a smaller share of their incomes in taxes than most regular homeowners and renters. Because there is no permanent funding source for affordable housing in Washington, we have to fight every year for resources to keep people in their homes.

If you pass the Affordable Housing Act, we would create sustainable funding for affordable homes for our farm workers, people with disabilities who need supportive housing, and families living paycheck to paycheck.

Not only would we be able to fund the housing we need, this bill would also help right our unjust tax code that has lower-income Washingtonians paying more than the wealthiest. Only ultra-wealthy people selling mansions worth over $3 million would have to chip in a little more, while most Washingtonians would see their tax rate go down.
